Mike Parker comes to Ruperra

You are invited to Home Farm Ruperra NP10 8GG) on Tuesday 7th June
at 6.30pm to a buffet and talk.

We are very pleased to welcome Mike Parker the well known author who will talk on

"A (very) Rough Guide to Wales - and beyond".

which will include his experiences in doing the Rough Guide, the ITV Wales series that he wrote and presented (Coast to Coast and Great Welsh Roads) and his various books.

MIKE PARKER

Mike is the author of the bestselling Map Addict, which celebrates his lifelong love affair with the humble map. Amongst the many plaudits, the Daily Telegraph described it as an “excellent book on the pleasures of maps and navigation, which is also a withering attack on the infantilisation of the satnav age”. The success of the book led to Mike being asked to write and present a ten-part series for Radio 4, On the Map, which aired in the spring of 2010. He also contributed to the BBC4 television series, The Beauty of Maps.

His follow-up book, The Wild Rover, is published in April 2011. Subtitled ‘A blistering journey along Britain’s footpaths’, the book is a passionate celebration of our unique rights of way network, and an examination of its very chequered history.

In his adopted home territory of Wales, Mike has written and presented seven series of offbeat television travelogues, including the phenomenally popular Great Welsh Roads, which saw him and his dog Patsy comb the country in a camper van, searching out the amazing, the amusing and the absurd. He regularly appears on TV and radio, in both Welsh and English. He also wrote the cult book Neighbours From Hell?, a passionate polemic about the history of English attitudes to their nearest neighbours. He has also written or co-written ten guide books, including five editions of the Rough Guide to Wales, and occasionally performs as an actor and It was Mike Parker who included Ruperra Castle in the recent Top 50 Essential Sites to visit in the Welsh Valleys. We are very indebted to him for enabling us to put Ruperra in the Top Ten!'
